Biodiversity conservation in the High Atlas Mountains cannot be accomplished through our research and actions alone. Successful conservation projects must also facilitate a process of change by which individuals, organizations and societies develop their knowledge and abilities, both individually and collectively, to protect and advocate for biodiversity. Our capacity building program empowers local community members that are active in the agricultural sector including cooperatives and youth, to sustainably manage local biodiversity, benefit from their ecosystem and take full responsibility to ensure longevity of all conservation actions initiated by MBLA.

Since 2014, we have successfully facilitated over 150 workshops in the Atlas region addressing a wide range of conservation practices, policies and commercialization tactics including the following:

  • Livestock management
  • Soil management and fertilization
  • Agroecology/permaculture
  • Seed conservation and collection
  • Digital marketing and other commercialization tools
  • Local product quality, packaging and labelling
  • Administrative and financial cooperatives management
  • International and national laws and conventions in the agricultural sector
  • Sustainable harvesting practices of wild plants
